The first season of Pretty Little Liars, based on the books of the same name by Sara Shepard, premiered on June 8, 2010 and concluded on March 21, 2011 on ABC Family.

The show premiered to 2.47 million viewers and retained a regular audience of 2.5 million viewers during its summer run. The summer finale scored 3.07 million viewers, achieving a series high. The show went on hiatus and returned with its winter premiere on January 3, 2011, with 4.20 million viewers, becoming one of ABC Family's top telecasts to date.

Queen bee Alison DiLaurentis decides to pull off something big to start off the freshmen year with a bang. However, Alison's plan does not succeed the way she planned it; endangering herself. At the end of the episode, Alison is seen fleeing town with false identification; without having told anyone what she did.

72 hours have passed since Alison's disappearance, and Alison's mother Jessica finally files a missing person report to the Rosewood Police Department, despite thinking that Alison is playing games with her. Alison's friends decide to question anyone who was close to Alison with no luck, and begin to worry she actually is missing. 'A' ending: 'A' views the missing person report of Alison DiLaurentis, and dramatically sets her doll on fire.

While taking a bus to a store, Aria finds a big shred of evidence suggesting she actually fleed town; however, she refrains from telling anyone to not worry people. Later, they all receive a text from "A" stating, "You have 24 hours to find Alison, or else... Tick tock." About to send it to the police, the message is abruptly removed, later they receive another message; "Trust me, you don't want to get this ugly. Aria, Emily, Hanna, I know what you did." In an attempt to find Alison, they search her room, finding some dirty secrets.
